Since the birth of electronic displays, display products have been measured and dimensioned in imperial units, so today we still inherit and use imperial units to express display sizes, especially standard size displays.
Since the discovery of blue-light LEDs in the 1970s, a new era of dynamic video LED display screen has opened. At the same time, large format digital LED display board based on direct view LEDs that can be freely combined have spread all over the streets, and emerging innovative LED display signages have broken through the measurement tradition of imperial units for the first time, the metric unit of measurement is uniformly used from the LED industry to the end market. Metric units are convenient for business communication and coordination in engineering construction, which greatly promotes the popularization and application of non-standard LED digital signs. With the upgrading and iteration of LED display manufacturing technology, standard size LED media has become a necessity for specific display application fields. Among the large scale LED wall metric units and the standard size LED totem inch units mentioned above, there is a concept that is easily overlooked and easily confused, that is, the difference between inch and the cun in Chinese, according to the dictionary interpretation, cun is a traditional Chinese unit of length. Its traditional measure is the width of a person's thumb at the knuckle, and a cun is equivalent to 3.33 centimeters in the metric system; and the word inch originated from the translation of the Republic of China period. Published on July 20, 1977 by the National Bureau of Standards and Metrology of the Chinese Character Reform Commission the Notice on the Uniform Use of Words for the Names of Measurement Units, when it is used as a measurement unit, the word ‘吋’ is a wrongly written word and should be replaced by ‘inch’. One吋(inch) is equivalent to 2.54 centimeters in the metric system. By understanding the origin of the unit of measurement, it is clear that the inch（吋） in the imperial unit is very different from the cun（寸） in Chinese culture.
